Motivation Mondays.

Hey friends! I hope you all had a relaxing, productive or exciting weekend, depending on what your plans were! We took a quick trip to the mountains of New Mexico for some much needed R & R and skiing! It was the first time I had set foot on the slopes after having started CrossFit almost 2 years ago. Two things I took away:

1) Why the heck did it take me so long to get back on the mountain? Don’t let this happen again.

2) I felt great! No overly sore muscles like I used to experience after being in a half squat, wall-sitting position for 8 hours.

I love getting out in nature. It helps calm my spirit and soothe my soul. With so much connection + technology around us in our daily lives, I can always tell when I need to escape from its tight grip. I feel anxious, just plain irritated, and like a terribly tacky 90’s turtle-neck sweater is tightly wrapped around my neck, making me desperately gasping for air. Anyone know the feeling?

Being in nature always allows me to breathe deep again. To slow down. To be thankful. To connect with my inner most thoughts and find my passion, inspiration and voice again. Ever spent time in silence? It can be uncomfortable at first, but man, does it do the mind, body + soul some good.

With this short time spent on the slopes, I began thinking about what keeps people from committing or sticking to a healthy lifestyle: OUR OWN MINDS.  Our mentality, perception + thought process dictate everything we do or don’t do in life.

And then I began to wonder…why does our willpower sabotage our progress? We start off on the right foot with good intentions, but eventually cave in either because we “messed up” or “it’s too hard” or end up giving into peer pressure. Often times you think, “Maybe it’s just not meant to be for me,” and settle for where you are at in life.

I’m not just talking about health + fitness goals, because I think this applies to the way we approach all areas of our lives: relationships, jobs, family, hobbies, etc. So, starting today, I am going to slowly (and hopefully) help you get over the negative thoughts you often let creep in, wreak havoc, and control your every move.

Welcome to Motivation Mondays, a weekly post series that I hope will shift your thinking, alter your attitude and change your life for the better. 🙂 It might come in the form of a simple quote, graphic or short little pep talk by yours truly.

So, for today’s motivation, let’s breathe deep + focus on our intentions for the week.

I hope you enjoy this series as it evolves, and feel free to share in the comments what inspires + motivates you!
