Emily of Gathering Wellness // Wellness Women.

Hey y’all! I hope this message finds you enjoying the start to your March, because February flew by LIKE WHOA. I am still recovering from a hard + fast trip to Portland for the NTA conference, but am so happy to be back home to the warm + sunny state of Texas. #texasforever #chronicsunworshipper

Rather than attend the conference talks (except for Daniele Della Valle), I was helping my sweet friends of SkinFoodie + Totem work their booths and put out all the #goodvibes we could in our little corner of the Expo Hall. I think you could say it was a success. We had so many wonderful connections + conversations come our way, and I can’t wait to share with you what comes out of it!

One of the things that makes my heart so full is the fact that the NTA brought me the tribe I had been searching for all along. Even though all families can have a little drama, there is nothing like being in a space that just “gets you” and allows you to be exactly who you are.

If you haven’t found a tribe like that, I really hope you do. Sometimes they are found in the least expected of places, but oh man, once you know, you know.

And if you are looking to become a health professional, I could not recommend the NTA enough. You will gain more knowledge + insight than you ever thought possible, and find a pretty rad group to geek out over it all, too. Especially the food. Oh, the food.

Be on the lookout for N&N at next year’s conference! We have some exciting ideas in the works!

Now, on to Emily’s interview!

MEET  EMILY

I’m Emily Spaeth, a nutritional therapist, holistic aesthetician + all-around wellness advocate living in Denver, CO! I work with women one-on-one, and also in small groups + workshops, on their wellness journey through my nutrition consulting practice Gathering Wellness. I guide them to create balance in their lives by utilizing approachable modalities + realistic tools so they can experience the vibrant effects nutrition + a positive lifestyle can have on their life.

When I’m not creating meal plans or connecting with other women in my community, I spend a lot of time with my fiancé + our sweet rescue pup cooking in the kitchen or walking to our favorite coffee shop.

Also, fun fact: I lead New Moon gatherings, where I bring women together to turn inward in a safe space, set intentions + feel supported by other women around the time of the new moon! It’s truly a treat to have this super intimate + powerful time with so much positive feminine energy – the gatherings feel like a big, juicy collective of self-love!

FAVORITE FOOD, TREAT OR INDULGENCE?

My favorite food indulgence is a really amazing, warm chocolate chip cookie!! Non-food indulgence is definitely a massage or facial with all-natural products at a relaxing spa or skin studio.

MUST HAVE SELF-CARE ITEM?

So simple, but in the winter my must-have self-care item is a pair of cozy wool socks! In the summer, a soothing + nourishing face mask feels heavenly.

WHAT TYPE OF MOVEMENT BRINGS YOU JOY?

I love to mix up my movement with yoga (though don’t do enough of it!), HIIT workouts, and slow walks outside with my little family.

SHARE A BIT ABOUT YOUR PERSONAL HEALTH JOURNEY:

As I was growing up I had a love-hate relationship with my body. I took care of it through sports + exercise, personal development, and even food as I began to explore which different diets worked for me – all from a pretty young age. But on the flipside, I had extreme moments of disordered eating, low self-confidence, depression + anxiety. When I finally took charge of creating more balance + more fully understood which tools I could use to build a life I imagined for myself, that’s when I decided I was ready to go back to school + help others do the same.

I especially love working with women who are very self-aware, know where they need to improve, but just need that push to steer them in the right direction with a little bit of motivation. I see myself from 5, 10 years ago in them and know they have so much potential. They have that drive + I always see them succeed!

IF YOU ARE IN THE HEALTH REALM, DO YOU HAVE A PRACTICE? IF SO, WHAT DO YOU SPECIALIZE IN?

In my nutrition practice, Gathering Wellness, I specialize in nutritional guidance + self care for individual clients + small groups that have a desire to create balance in mood, gut + skin, all of which are actually very connected!

WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO CONVEY TO OTHER WOMEN SEEKING OPTIMAL HEALTH?

I hope to convey to other women that tuning into our own bodies, to our intuition + listening to what it’s trying to tell us, can be so useful + healing. Our bodies are intelligent and when we’re out of balance (overweight, acne-prone skin, gut discomfort, etc.) they let us know that something isn’t right. By striving to create balance, we can achieve optimal wellness, and do so in a way that feels manageable + realistic when we work together!

IF YOU COULD GIVE ONE TIP TO SOMEONE JUST STARTING OUT ON THEIR HEALTH JOURNEY, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

Make slow + steady modifications that support your goals – by avoiding a fast + furious attempt to change your health in one sitting, you’re setting yourself up for longer-lasting changes and a lifetime of wellness. (Bonus Tip: work with a professional because Dr. Google doesn’t take into account your individual needs!)

SHARE YOUR FAVORITE QUOTE OR SOURCE OF INSPIRATION.

My favorite quote is from Anäis Nin and can be meaningful in taking a step towards bettering your wellness – emotionally, physically, spiritually – or anything else in life, for that matter.

“And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud became more painful than the risk it took to blossom.”

HOW CAN SOMEONE REACH OUT TO CONNECT WITH YOU?

They can find me through my website, Gathering Wellness, on social @gatheringwellness, or by dropping me a note directly at emily@gatheringwellness.com!

IF YOU COULD PICK TWO WORDS TO REPRESENT YOUR PERSONAL MANTRA, WHAT WOULD THEY BE AND WHY?

Self Love. Honoring myself enough to take care of me first so I can be a better partner/sister/daughter/friend/mother; knowing when it’s time to step back + turn in to refuel my body + soul; and allowing myself those necessities.
