Green Power Smoothie.

If you know me well, it may be no surprise to you that I have always had a passion for health + fitness. It may have taken different shapes and forms–the good, the bad + the ugly–over the years, but throughout the journey, my overall goal has been focused on living well.

Like many women, I’ve struggled for years with body image, and it’s something that with no doubt led me to get where I am today; even if it started in a place of negativity. (I’ll save my full story for another post, but today I am happy to report that I LOVE where i am at!)

Over the last year and a half, I’ve found an amazingly challenging yet supportive community where I can be myself, test my limits, and achieve things I never fathomed I could ever do. You may have heard of this type of community being referred to as a “cult” and one that women avoid like the plague for fear of getting “bulky”, but both of those descriptions are simply not true.

I cannot express enough gratitude for what this community has done for my self-esteem, self-worth + overall confidence. I honestly think every woman should give it a shot. But I’m not here to list 37 reasons why you should join. All I’m saying is don’t knock it until you try it. 🙂

Since having joined this awesome community that challenges me to be my best every day, I’ve taken to a deep interest in understanding good, solid, whole, real nutrition, and how what you put into your body can deeply affect your mood, sleep, hormones, and performance in the gym. As I still work on nailing down my own nutrition, I have devoured every book I can get my hands on, and I have loved what I’ve discovered so much that I could literally talk anyone’s ear off about it if they are willing to listen. Sorry in advance if you get stuck in an elevator with me, but the world needs to know!

With that passion + constantly growing knowledge, I am now on the road to pursuing a nutrition certification to become a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner (June 2015), in hopes of offering personalized counseling + education. But I didn’t want to wait until I got some “certified” title next to my name in order to start sharing what I believe to be vital information.

So, with that being said, after much thought, prayer + one-sided discussion with my hus-band (sorry babe!) I’ve decided to post regularly about the things I’ve learned and am learning in regards to health + wellness.

If you are looking for a fitness blog or some get-slim-quick tips, this won’t be the place for you. While I may post things here and there about my fitness routines, MY SOLE FOCUS will be centered around educating my readers about NUTRITION!

Who will this apply to? ANYONE.

  •  College students looking to stay healthy and avoid the freshman 15.
  •  Women whose metabolism just isn’t what it used to be, and can’t seem to get back on track.
  •  Someone dealing with annoying allergies, headaches, moods, sleep or skin issues, decreased energy levels, etc.
  •  Athletes looking to perform their best and see gains in the gym or on the field.
  •  Anyone looking to make a lifelong commitment to living and leading their families on a journey towards a healthy, vibrant life.

I FULLY believe you can heal your body through good nutrition. It is SO amazing when you think about all that it does in order to keep you functioning each day, so why not help it perform at it’s absolute best?

Now, in order to kick things off and not leave you with just a “I’m blogging about this!” post, today I will leave you with my favorite green power smoothie recipe!

GREEN POWER SMOOTHIE:

  •  1-2 cups of greens (kale or spinach)
  •  1 frozen banana
  •  1/2 avocado
  •  1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
  •  1 scoop organic vanilla protein powder of your choice (I use this one or this one)
  •  1tbs flax seed
  •  dash of cinnamon
  •  ice

* Put the ingredients in the blender in that order, and blend until completely smooth. Enjoy in a chilled mug or glass!

WHY AVOCADO YOU ASK? If you are on the go and don’t have time to make a well-rounded and balanced breakfast, your body needs more than just that simple fruit smoothie that gives you quick energy but is associated with rapid blood sugar spikes.

Avocado is a healthy, nutrient-dense fat that helps keep you focused at work, satiated longer, and your blood sugar levels balanced! Plus it adds a yummy, creamy texture to your smoothie!

MORE HEALTH BENEFITS FROM THIS GREEN SMOOTHIE: It is loaded with clean (dairy-free!) protein, calcium, potassium, and fiber, as well as vitamin a, c, + k!

And if I don’t know the answer right away, you better believe I am going to find it!

live well. love well. be well.
