Break Up With Your Sweet Tooth.

Anyone else fall back into the trap of the sugar monster over the holidays?

Seriously though, the struggle is REAL. While I adore everything about the season between Halloween and New Years, it is hell for anyone trying to stick to a clean eating lifestyle, especially if sugar is your arch nemesis. Just when you think you have a handle on your addiction to sweets, you are bombarded with fresh baked Christmas cookies + holiday treats around every corner. Don’t even get me started on pumpkin spice flavored everything. Oof.

Sugar is a like a gate-way drug for all the poor food decisions. Once you get a little, you can’t help but want a little bit more, and then gosh dang-it, you eat a whole batch of cookies in a matter of a few days (or minutes).

WHY IS SUGAR SO HARD TO KICK?

Eating it causes a chemical + hormonal reaction in our bodies that induces stress, causes energy crashes, and depletes us of vital vitamins + minerals, eventually resulting in us giving into our cravings and going back for more and more. The constant spike + crash of our blood sugar levels result in constantly varying mood + energy levels. It is such an unfortunate and vicious cycle that has often been referred to as addictive and difficult to quit as drugs.

Overdosing the body with sugar, especially over the course of months or years, can lead to many physical and mental maladies that sufferers often don’t realize stem from their diet.

Obesity, weakened immune system, chronic fatigue, hormonal problems and gastrointestinal issues are some of the more common effects of long-term sugar addiction, Teitelbaum says.

Psychological issues, such as anxiety and depression, can also be aggravated by consuming too much sugar. Those who are chronically fatigued — whether from lack of sleep, overworking or poor nutrition — tend to reach for caffeine, sugar, or most often both. — “Is Your Sweet Tooth an Addiction?”

Sound familiar? Well, fear not, because you CAN get control of your sugar cravings again!

While I am not quite equipped (nor do I currently have the time) to create a program on my own, I’d like to invite you to JOIN ME for a 21-Day Sugar Detox starting Monday January 5th, 2015. This program was created by nutritionist and author, Diane Sanfilippo, who is one of my absolute favorite leaders in the health + wellness community right now. (And also one of the reasons for why I am pursuing an education to become a certified Nutritional Therapy Practitioner as we speak!)

Her program was created to help others kick the sugar dependence for good, and learn healthful ways to incorporate some sweets back in for those every-so-often special occasions, with the help of an encouraging environment.

I have followed Diane’s work for over a year now, but have never fully gone through The 21 Day Sugar Detox program myself. But the New Year is here, and so many people at our gym and in my community have been interested in doing something positive with their health nutritionally, but just need a little extra boost with some encouraging love + guidance! Together we can do anything for 21 DAYS, right? For as fast as this year has flown by, that’s seriously no time at all!

HOW TO SIGN UP: You can simply buy The 21 Day Sugar Detox book and Cookbook at your local book shop or order it off of Amazon, and follow the program as written, with no additional info or guided support.

However, as I am on the path to eventually become a full time NTP, I would GREATLY appreciate your support if you chose to register here, through my affiliate link. As a part of joining the official 21 Day Sugar Detox program, you will not only have access to online forums, free daily emails, hundreds of pages of PDF guides from special diet meal planning to at-home workout guides and quick sugar tips, you will also be supporting me in a small way as I pursue my dream of educating, inspiring, healing, and promoting vitality within my local community and beyond.

There are several options for you to sign up, so take a look and decide which is best for you! AS AN ADDED BONUS… If you choose to support me and sign up via my affiliate link, I plan to not only create a secret Facebook group just for our 21-DSD group, but I also will be available for unlimited e-mail support as we take on the challenge together! YES, unlimited e-mail support for 3 WEEKS. That means you can pick my brain along the way, vent your frustrations, ask personal questions you don’t quite feel comfortable asking in the Facebook group, or share whatever else is on your mind.

ALSO, if you are joining me and live in Midland, TX, I’d love to personally help you detox your pantry + fridge, give you tips on nutrition label reading + efficient kitchen organization, and even take you on a grocery tour if you have no idea where to start!

I want to see you succeed, and a lot of the time if we fail to make a plan, we are already stacking the deck against us before we even start! Signing up to do the 21DSD alongside me will be a great step in sticking to it, and following through!

TIPS TO GET READY:

Stick to foods that are familiar to you, or are easy for you to make.
  • Find 21-DSD approved substitutes. If you know you can’t handle not having your holiday creamer in your coffee, find out a 21-DSD approved substitute, and have your pantry stocked + ready to go, so you don’t cave in and derail your hard-earned progress.
  • Breathe. YOU CAN DO THIS! I will be here every step of the way, going through the exact same things as you, holding your hand as your personal cheerleader throughout the whole process. Don’t allow sugar to have a hold over your life anymore.
